How we began . . .

In 1975, a handful of dedicated Christian parents decided to form an educational community which would enable them—in the words of the first Head Teacher, Mr. Bob Hudspith—"to be a learning community for Christ's sake", with a view to "growing in His Service." The school was simply named The Community for Christian Learning, and they met in a church basement for the first year. Since that time, much growth has taken place, including several location changes, a name change, and a significant increase in the student body! Most importantly, this institution—this community of learning—has remained committed to growing in His service, and we  in the present are grateful to the Lord for growing and sustaining this community which spans generations.

The Community for Christian Learning Association of Ottawa (CCL) was incorporated September 29,1975. The school met in the basement of Faith Lutheran Church at 43 Meadowlands Drive for a year, and then moved to Westboro Baptist Church, on Richmond Road. The Head Teachers between 1975-1980 were Mr. Robert (Bob) Hudspith and Mr. Robert (Bob) Moore. Initially there were only three full-time teachers and a handful of part-time teachers. Student enrolment the first year was about forty-five, and there were just three graduates; by 1979/80, the graduating class had tripled to nine!

CCL put on its first drama production, "The Trial of Joe Bailey." The idea for the original play sprang from the grades 11 and 12 interdisciplinary unit on "crime".

In 1980, the school officially changed its name to Redeemer Christian High School, and Mr. Derek Maggs became the Principal (Mr. Maggs was also the longest serving principal at Redeemer). The school relocated to 900 Merivale Road, Ottawa, in 1981, and remained there until 1991.

In 1991, RCHS relocated again to 2199 Regency Terrace (Bishop Hamilton Montessori School); BHMS occupied the first floor, while RCHS occupied the second floor.

In 1997, RCHS ended its long history of semi-nomadic life and settled in at 82 Colonnade Road—our current home.
