Congratulations Graduates of 2010!

graduation hatOn June 24, our entire school community came out to celebrate and watch our 42 graduates receive their Ontario Secondary School Diplomas, as well as other well deserved awards.  This year's graduates chose classmate Mark Priddle to be their valedictorian, and they selected Pastor Rob McKee, who has been a regular speaker at Redeemer Chapel, to address their class.  

Continuing our tradition of granting achievement awards in the areas of academics and student life, Redeemer was pleased to recognize the following 20 students as Ontario Scholars, which means they fulfilled all Ontario Secondary School Diploma requirements and have achieved at least an 80% average on at least 6 courses at any grade 12 level:  Jared Ayer, Natalya Berg, Rachel Bergsma, Rebecca Chadwick-Shubat, Rita Cooper, Bethany Hartgerink, Alicia Heuving, Rikki Johnson, Jee Hee Jung, James Lennox, Jorge Luengo-Molero, Ruth Owen, Robbie Palmer, Mark Priddle, Jodie Sanderson, Benjamin Scholman, Carolyn Sparks, Robert Staal, Lennart Trouborst, and Kimberly Young.

The following Redeemer graduates were on our Honour Roll, which means they attained an average of 80% or higher during this academic year at Redeemer, and took a minimum of 6 courses:  Jared Ayer, Rachel Bergsma, Rebecca Chadwick-Shubat, Rita Cooper, Bethany Hartgerink, Alicia Heuving, Rikki Johnston, Jee Hee Jung, James Lennox, Jorge Luengo-Molero, Gloria Mok, Ruth Owen, Robbie Palmer, Mark Priddle, Jodie Sanderson, Benjamin Scholman, Carolyn Sparks, Robert Staal, Lennart Trouborst, and Kimberly Young.

Academic Awards for students who attained the highest average in a grade 12 course were given to:

Visual Arts at the University/College Level:  Rita Cooper

Exploring the Arts at the Open Level - Jorge Luengo-Molero

World History: The West and the World at the University Level - Rebecca Chadwick-Shubat

English at the College Level - Olivia Desormeaux

English at the University Level - two students tied: Alicia Heuving and Bethany Hartgerink

Interdisciplinary Seminar at the Open Level - Alicia Heuving

French at the University Level - Ana Luengo-Molero (grade 11 student)

Language and Communications Development - Kyle Bergsma

Money Management and Personal Banking - Gloria Mok

Foundations for College Mathematics at the College level - Rikki Johnston

Mathematics of Data Management at the University Level - Ici Li (grade 11 student)

Chemistry at the University Level - Jeremy Vandenberg (grade 11 student)

Advanced Functions at the University Level - Jodie Sanderson

Calculus and Vectors at the University Level - Jodie Sanderson

Biology at the University Level - Lennart Trouborst

Physics at the University Level - Lennart Trouborst

Interdisciplinary Seminar at the University Level - Bethany Hartgerink

World Issues: A Geographic Analysis, at the University Level - Bethany Hartgerink

Challenge and Change in Society at the University/College Level - Bethany Hartgerink

Citizenship Awards: These are presented to the students who have provided support and encouragement to others, have demonstrated outstanding citizenship and community spirit, have been involved with school activities, and have a positive relationship with staff and fellow students:  Rebecca Chadwick-Shubat, Rita Cooper, Jorge Luengo-Molero, Jodie Sanderson, Carolyn Sparks, and Kim Young.

Timothy Awards: Paul encouraged Timothy with these words from Timothy 4:12 "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in faith and in purity."  The Timothy Awards are given to students in each grade 12 course who shows exemplary faithfulness in effort, attitude and development of skills. 

The following students have been nominated by their teachers to receive the Timothy Award:   Jodie Sanderson, Rita Cooper, Olivia Desormeaux, Rebecca Chadwick-Shubat, Jee Hee Jung, Kyle Bergsma, Gloria Mok, and Ruth Owen.

Lieutenant Governor's Award: This award is given in recognition of exemplary volunteer activity and community contributions. This year's award goes to Rosemary Weima, who has logged over 700 volunteer hours of service throughout her time at Redeemer Christian High School.

The Governor General's Academic Medal:  This medal is sponsored by the Governor General's Office for academic excellence to the student who achieves the highest average in an Ontario Ministry Inspected school, for both grade 11 and 12.  This year's medal went to Rita Cooper.

Redeemer Christian High School is proud to report that 16 of our 42 graduates received scholarships. The following Redeemer graduates received entrance scholarships at their university of choice:

Entrance Scholarships from Carleton University were awarded to: Jared Ayer, Rebecca Chadwick-Shubat, Bethany Hartgerink, Jee Hee Jung, Shelby Lang, Haley Nash, Lennart Trouborst and Rita Cooper. Rita also won the Hydro Ottawa Safety Scholarship and received a Carleton bursery.

Entrance Scholarships from the University of Ottawa were awarded to: Alicia Heuving, Mark Priddle, and Jodie Sanderson. Jodie also won the Dean Merits Scholarship from the Telfer School of Business and the French Immersion Scholarship from U of O.

Entrance Scholarship from Queen's University was awarded to James Lennox

Entrance Scholarship from Trent University was awarded to Carolyn Sparks.

Entrance Scholarship from Redeemer University was awarded to Natalya Berg.

Houghton College Excellence Scholarship, Houghton College Grant, Houghton College Canadian Grant, Houghton Early Application Grant and the Weslyan Grant from Houghton, were all awarded to Kim Young.

The Royal Canadian Air Cadets Scholarship, as well as the St. Clare's Parish Award were given to Matthias Bowles.

The staff and administration of Redeemer Christian High School would like to congratulate all our grade 12 students, who poured countless hours of time and effort into their studies! We are proud of every one of you!  May God Bless you all as you move into the world of university, college and work.
